How to integrate Google Chat with Airtable to add the content of a message sent in Google Chat to Airtable

How to Add Messages Sent in Google Chat to Airtable


After that, you can add messages using the API provided by Airtable after replacing data using regular expressions.
This enables automation.
Generally, programming knowledge is required, but it can be easily achieved without programming knowledge by using the no-code tool Yoom.

This time, we will create it through the following major processes.

  • Copy the template
  • Read messages from Google Chat, replace data using regular expressions, and then add the messages to Airtable
  • Set the trigger to ON and complete the preparation for flow operation

If you are already registered with Yoom, please log in. If you are not registered, please proceed with the setup after registering for free.

Step 1: Integrate Google Chat and Airtable with My Apps

First, integrate Google Chat and Airtable with My Apps.
After logging into Yoom, click on "My Apps" on the left side of the screen, then search for and click on Google Chat from "+New Connection".
*Integration with Google Chat is only possible if you have a Google Workspace subscription. For more details, please refer to here.
*If two apps appear in the search results, please click on Google Chat (OAuth).

Next, click on "Sign in with Google".

Enter "Client ID" and "Client Secret" and click "Register".
This completes the registration of Google Chat with My Apps.

Next, search for Airtable from "+New Connection".

Sign in to Airtable using any method you prefer.

Next, click on "+Add a base" at the bottom of the page and select a workspace.
Then click "Grant access" to complete the Airtable integration.

Next, proceed with the setup using the Flowbot template.
Log in to Yoom and click "Try it" on the banner below.

"Template has been copied!" will be displayed, so click "OK" to complete the copy.

Step 2: Load messages from Google Chat

Next, set up to load messages from Google Chat.
Click "When a new message is posted in the room".

On the next page, check the "Account information to integrate with Google Chat".
The title can be edited, but do not change the trigger action and click "Next".

Set up the API connection.
"Trigger interval" can be selected from 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 60 minutes.
*Please note that the shortest trigger interval varies depending on the plan.
For "Space resource name", click the input field and select the space from the displayed options.
Once the setup is complete, post a message in the specified space and click "Test".

Check the information displayed in the output and click "Save".

Step 3: Perform data replacement using regular expressions

Next, set up data replacement using regular expressions for the message content.
Click "Perform data replacement using regular expressions".

Click the input field for "Replacement target" and select the message content loaded from Google Chat from the displayed options.
"Specify replacement location with regular expression" can be set optionally. For details on regular expressions, please see this page.
Once the setup is complete, click "Test".

Check the message displayed in the output and click "Save".

Step 4: Save the message to Airtable

Next, set up to save the message to Airtable.
Click "Create record".

Perform optional title editing and account information verification, then click "Next".

Refer to the annotations for "Base ID" and "Table ID or Name", and enter the values obtained from Airtable.
In "Field Information", set "Field Name" and "Value".
For "Field Name", enter the field name set in the Airtable table as shown in the image.
For "Value", click the input field and select "Replaced Value" from the displayed options.

Additionally, click "+ Add Field Information" to add more save items.
If you want to add save items, increase the field items in the Airtable table and specify them with the field name.
When ready, click "Test".

Verify that the message has been added in Airtable and click "Save".

Finally, click "Turn on Trigger" to complete the flow operation preparation. Now, when a message is sent in Google Chat, the post content will be added to Airtable.
