s.miyamoto

Have you ever experienced "missing important information because there are too many messages in the company chat"?
In such cases, it would be very convenient to have a system where messages are automatically organized and saved by information type.
In this article, we will explain how to integrate Slack with Airtable so that when a message is sent in Slack, its content is automatically added to Airtable.
This eliminates the need for manual data organization and supports smooth information sharing.
This app integration can be easily implemented without programming. Please refer to this article and give it a try.

Recommended for

  • Project managers who want to make information sharing between departments more efficient using Slack
  • Team leaders who aim to visualize work progress by integrating Slack and Airtable
  • Customer support representatives who want to centrally manage history in customer support operations on Slack
  • Sales representatives who want to simplify daily task management and unify business processes using Airtable

Now, let's explain how to use the no-code tool Yoom to add the content of a post to Airtable when a message is sent in Slack.

[What is Yoom]

How to add the content of a post to Airtable when a message is sent in Slack

First, receive the message sent in Slack using Slack's API. Then, perform data replacement using regular expressions, and use the API provided by Airtable to add the message content. This allows for automation.

Generally, programming knowledge is required to achieve this, but with the no-code tool Yoom, it can be easily implemented without programming knowledge.

We will create this in the following major processes.

  • Integrate Slack and Airtable with My Apps
  • Copy the template
  • Read the message sent in Slack, perform data replacement using regular expressions, and save the message in Airtable
  • Set the trigger to ON and complete the preparation for flow operation

If you are already registered with Yoom, please log in. If you are not registered, please proceed with the setup after registering for free.

Step 1: Integrate Slack and Airtable with My App

First, integrate Slack and Airtable with My App.
After logging into Yoom, click on "My App" on the left side of the screen and search for Slack from "+ New Connection".

If you are already signed in to Slack, a page like the one in the image will be displayed. If not signed in, please sign in on the "Sign in to your workspace" screen.
If you want to use a different workspace, click "Add another workspace" at the top right of the screen to change the settings.
After signing in, select the channel for notifications from "Search for channels" at the bottom of the screen and click "Allow" to complete the Slack integration.

Next, search for Airtable from "+ New Connection".

Sign in using any method.

Next, click "+ Add a base" at the bottom of the page and select a workspace.
Then click "Grant access" to complete the Airtable integration.

Next, let's proceed with the setup using the Flowbot template.
Log in to Yoom and click "Try it" on the banner below.

"Template has been copied!" will be displayed, so click "OK" to complete the copy.

Step 2: Load messages sent on Slack

Next, set up to load messages sent on Slack.
Click "When a new message is posted to a channel".

On the next page, check the "Account information to integrate with Slack".
The title can be edited, but do not change the trigger action and click "Next".

Set up the API connection.
"Trigger interval" can be selected from 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 60 minutes.
*Please note that the shortest trigger interval varies depending on the plan.
For "Channel ID", click the input field and select the channel from the displayed options.
Once the setup is complete, click "Test".

In the output, confirm that the message information posted in the channel has been retrieved, and click "Save".

Step 3: Perform data replacement using regular expressions

Next, set up to perform data replacement using regular expressions on the message content.
Click "Perform data replacement using regular expressions".

・AI operations are features available only in the Team Plan and Success Plan. In the case of the Free Plan or Mini Plan, the operation of the flow bot being set will result in an error, so please be careful.

・Paid plans such as the Team Plan and Success Plan offer a 2-week free trial. During the free trial, you can use restricted apps and AI features (operations).

Click the input field for "Replacement target" and select the message body loaded from Slack from the displayed options.
"Specify replacement location with regular expression" can be set optionally. For details on regular expressions, please refer to this page.
Once the setup is complete, click "Test".

Check the replaced value displayed in the output and click "Save".

Step 4: Save messages to Airtable

Next, set up to save messages to Airtable.
Click "Create record".

Edit the title as desired and check the account information, then click "Next".

For "Base ID" and "Table ID or Name", refer to the annotations and enter the values obtained from Airtable.
In "Field Information", set the "Field Name" and "Value".
Click the input field for "Value" and select "Replaced Value" from the displayed options.

Additionally, you can add save items by clicking "+ Add Field Information".
If you want to add save items, please increase the field items of the table in Airtable.

"Field Name" can be specified by entering the field name of the table set in Airtable as shown in the image.
Once ready, click "Test".

Once the message is added to Airtable, click "Save".

Finally, click "Turn on Trigger" to complete the preparation for flow operation. Now, when a message is sent on Slack, the posted content will be added to Airtable.

Other Automation Examples Using Slack and Airtable

There are many other examples of automation using Slack and Airtable in Yoom, so here are a few introductions.

1. Notify Slack When Information is Registered in Airtable

When new information is registered in Airtable, the details are notified in Slack. This allows for smooth sharing of registered content and reduces the risk of missing information.

2. When there is a response to the employment acceptance form, register it in the kintone record and notify Slack

Responses to the employment acceptance form are registered in kintone, and the details are notified on Slack. This supports the efficient management and sharing of response details.

3. Create a Slack channel and invite members when a ToDo object is registered in Salesforce

When a ToDo object is registered in Salesforce, a channel is automatically created in Slack and relevant members are invited. This is expected to facilitate smooth collaboration on team tasks.

Benefits and Examples of Integrating Slack and Airtable

Benefit 1: Faster Information Sharing Among Teams

By automatically recording information posted on Slack into Airtable, it supports quick information sharing within the team.
For example, when the sales team posts customer inquiries on Slack, they are automatically added to the Airtable database, allowing the support team to immediately access the information.
This ensures that important information, which might otherwise be overlooked on Slack, is recorded without fail and managed in an accessible manner, thereby strengthening inter-departmental collaboration.
As a result, it helps reduce human errors in information transmission and contributes to improving work speed.

Benefit 2: Visualization and Streamlining of Business Processes

By automatically adding messages from Slack to Airtable, it is expected that business flows and ongoing projects can be easily visualized.
For instance, when progress on tasks or ideas related to a project is posted on Slack, it can be viewed in Gantt chart or calendar format within Airtable.
Especially since Airtable is an excellent platform for organizing and categorizing information, it is believed that a consistent management system can be established even with high message frequency on Slack.
This makes it easier for team members to grasp task progress, and overall business efficiency is expected to improve.

Benefit 3: Centralized Management of Customer Interaction History

In customer support operations, by saving customer interaction history from Slack into Airtable, interactions can be centrally managed.
If customer requests or issues shared by support members on Slack are automatically saved in Airtable, it is expected that anyone can easily search and refer to past interactions.
This is believed to enhance accurate support and improve response speed to similar issues.
Especially when multiple teams are involved in customer support, it is expected to prevent duplicate responses, potentially improving customer satisfaction.

Conclusion

Integrating Slack and Airtable offers numerous benefits, such as speeding up information sharing, visualizing business processes, and centralizing customer interaction history.
It not only reduces the manual tasks previously performed but also supports consistent data management.
If you aim to improve business efficiency and strengthen team collaboration, please try this app integration.
Yoom's app integration requires no programming and can be easily implemented. Take this opportunity to experience business efficiency improvement.
