In today's business environment, more and more cases are emerging where multiple IT tools are utilized to streamline operations.
However, collaboration between teams using different chat tools, such as Google Chat and Slack, can lead to delays in information transmission and missed confirmations.
This blog introduces a method to automatically notify Slack of messages posted on Google Chat by integrating Google Chat and Slack.
By implementing this system, it is possible to enable rapid information sharing and facilitate smooth collaboration between teams using different tools.
We will clearly explain how to easily integrate Google Chat and Slack without the need for programming.
If you want to further enhance your operational efficiency, please read on.

Recommended for

  • Those who are using both Google Chat and Slack and want to facilitate information sharing
  • IT operations personnel who want to quickly confirm important notifications posted on Google Chat in Slack to prevent missing notifications
  • Corporate personnel considering smooth information collaboration with external partners using Slack and Google Chat

Benefits and Examples of Integrating Google Chat and Slack

Benefit 1: Facilitate Information Sharing Between Multiple Chat Tools

By integrating Google Chat and Slack, messages posted on Google Chat can be notified in real-time to Slack, facilitating information sharing.
This automation can prevent miscommunication and missed confirmations between teams using both tools, potentially preventing issues before they arise.
This can improve operational efficiency between teams using different tools, potentially smoothing project progress.

Benefit 2: Prevent Missing Important Notifications

By integrating Google Chat and Slack, important messages posted on Google Chat can be quickly notified to Slack, preventing missed sharing of important notifications and enabling faster response.
For example, if important instructions are posted on Google Chat, they may not reach departments or teams that primarily use Slack, potentially causing delays in response.
However, with this automation, important notifications can be shared without omission, potentially preventing missed notifications.

Benefit 3: Strengthen Collaboration with External Partners and Customers

When sending Google Chat messages to external partners or customers using Slack, it can take time for re-entering information or manual forwarding.
This automation allows Google Chat messages to be automatically notified directly to Slack, improving the speed of information sharing and enabling smooth collaboration.
For example, it allows for quick notification and sharing of progress reports or schedule changes for meetings with external partners, potentially facilitating smooth operations.

From here, we will explain how to notify Slack of messages posted on Google Chat using the no-code tool Yoom.

[What is Yoom]

How to Automatically Notify Slack of Messages Posted on Google Chat

It is possible to achieve this by receiving messages sent to a Google Chat space using the Google Chat API and sending messages to a Slack channel using the Slack API.
Generally, programming knowledge is required to achieve this, but it can be easily accomplished without programming knowledge by using the no-code tool Yoom.

This flow is created in four main processes.

  • Integration of Google Chat and Slack My Apps
  • Copy the template
  • Set the trigger in Google Chat and then set the action in Slack
  • Turn on the trigger

〈Preparation〉

First, please register for Yoom.
Yoom offers a 2-week trial, allowing you to actually operate and check the usability.

Step 1: My App Integration with Google Chat and Slack

1. How to Register Google Chat

Click "My Apps" and select Google Chat from "New Connection".

When the above screen appears, click "Sign in with Google".

Next, enter the Client ID and Client Secret, then click "Register" to complete the My App registration.
Reference: For detailed setup instructions, please refer to the help page here.
Note: Integration with Google Chat is only possible with Google Workspace.
For details, please refer to here.

2. How to Register Slack
Next, select Slack from "New Connection".

Select the destination to post to and click "Allow".

This completes the My App registration for Google Chat and Slack.

From here, we will use the Flow Bot Template.
Click the banner below and start creating a flow from the "Try it" button.

Step 2: Setting up a trigger to activate when a message is sent to a Google Chat space

First, click on the item "When a message is sent to a space".

The title can be changed.
Make sure there are no errors in the "Account information to integrate with Google Chat (OAuth)".
Do not change the trigger action and click "Next".

You can choose the trigger activation interval from 5 minutes/10 minutes/15 minutes/30 minutes/60 minutes.
Note: Depending on the plan, you may not be able to select the trigger activation interval, so please be careful.

Set the resource name of the space by referring to the annotation outside the frame.

Once the setup is complete, send a test message to Google Chat.

When you press the test button at the bottom of the screen, the information of the message you just sent to Google Chat will be displayed in the output.
If there are no errors, click "Save" to complete the app trigger setup.

Step 3: Send a message to a Slack channel

Next, click on "Send a message to a channel" to set it up.

The title can be changed.
Make sure there are no errors in the "Account information to integrate with Slack".
Do not change the action and click "Next".

Set the channel ID for the posting destination by referring to the annotation outside the frame.

The message is set as shown in the image above.
Explanation: By setting it this way, you can automatically retrieve the message content posted to Google Chat and send a message to Slack.

Since the message can be changed, freely set the content you want to retrieve according to your needs.

Once the setup is complete, press the test button at the bottom of the screen.
A test message will be sent to Slack, so check the content and save the settings if there are no issues.

Step 4: Turn the trigger ON

Once the flow bot creation is complete, a screen like the above will be displayed.
The trigger is initially set to OFF, so change it to ON.
This completes the flow of "Notifying Slack of messages posted on Google Chat".

Introduction to Other Automation Examples Using Google Chat and Slack

Yoom offers many other examples of automation using Google Chat and Slack, so here are a few introductions.

1. A flow that automatically translates messages posted in Google Chat and posts the translated version to Slack.
By utilizing this flow, all team members can communicate actively without being conscious of language barriers.
This is expected to facilitate smooth information sharing and collaboration.

2. This is a flow that automatically notifies Google Chat of Zoom meeting information at a set time every day.
By utilizing this flow, you can efficiently manage information related to meetings and reduce the chances of missing confirmations.
As a result, you will be less likely to realize there is a meeting at the last minute and rush to prepare, allowing you to start preparations with plenty of time.

3. This is a flow that automatically adds content posted in a specific room on Google Chat to a Google Spreadsheet.
By utilizing this flow, there is no need to manually transcribe the posted content, which facilitates smooth progress management.
By using Google Spreadsheets, it is also possible to create reports, allowing you to visualize the project's progress for team members.
