To streamline data management and information sharing, many businesses and teams use Google Sheets. However, those responsible for managing these sheets are likely always cautious to ensure no updates are missed. When multiple team members are editing a Google Sheet simultaneously, it can be difficult to quickly identify which rows have been updated.
To address this issue, implementing an automated system that notifies you on Slack whenever there’s an update in Google Sheets can make tracking updates much smoother, enabling quicker responses. In this article, we will explain in detail how to integrate Google Sheets with Slack to receive notifications in Slack whenever a row is updated. This will help prevent missing important changes and improve work efficiency.
Additionally, in the second half of the article, we’ll also introduce some advanced integrations for both apps. Since everything can be done using no-code tools, it’s a great resource for those who want to automate their workflows without needing to code.
Recommended for:
Those who want to receive Slack notifications when they update a Google Sheet.
Those looking to improve efficiency using Google Sheets and Slack.
Those who want to automate update notifications from Google Sheets to Slack.
For those who want to try it now:
This article introduces how to integrate Google Sheets and Slack using the no-code tool "Yoom." No complicated settings or operations are required, so even non-engineers can easily set it up. You can start right away with the template below, so feel free to give it a try!
Notify Slack when a row is updated in Google Sheets.
How to Create a Workflow Connecting Google Sheets and Slack
Let's get started by connecting the two apps we'll be using with Yoom! Before that, if you don't have a Yoom account, please issue one from theYoom Account Issuance Page. You can start in 30 seconds! For basic operations of Yoom, please refer toGetting Started with Yoom. Once registration is complete, let's create a flow bot that "Notifies Slack when a row is updated in Google Sheets". With images!
Step 1: Connect My Apps
First, let's connect Slack and Yoom. Select My Apps → New Connection → Slack from the left side of the Yoom page. Search for it in the app list or by app name. When the following screen appears, sign in to the desired channel.
Next, connect Google Sheets. As you proceed with the login, you will see this screen, so click confirm and continue.
You're done when both apps appear in My Apps.
Notify Slack when a row is updated in Google Sheets.
This time, we will use the template provided above. Once you open the template page, click Try this template. If you are using Yoom, please log in, and if you are new, please register. As you proceed, the template will be copied to your workspace. You can also change the name of the template. Click on My Projects on the left to see the template you just copied. Click the ellipsis (...) on the right and select Edit.
This time, there are two steps. Let's set it up together!
First, let's prepare the Google Spreadsheet. This time, we have prepared the following items and responses. It's an image of managing the progress of application content.
Now, let's set up the app trigger. Select "When a row is updated". Check the account information to be linked. Keep the action as it is and proceed to the next step. On the next screen, set the following items. Please note that there is a limit to the range of tables that can be set for each plan. For details, please refer to the setting method in the image.
Trigger Interval: You can choose from intervals of 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes. ※ The selection of intervals varies depending on the plan.
Spreadsheet ID and Sheet ID: Please select from the candidates.
Table Range (Start): If you want the table range to be from A to H, specify "A".
Table Range (End): If you want the table range to be from A to H, specify "H".
Column with Unique Values: Select the column name that contains unique values, such as email addresses or IDs, which do not duplicate within the column (the column that becomes the unique key). Example: A
Column to Detect Updates: Specify the column name to detect updates. When the value in the specified column is updated, the flow bot will be activated. Example: D
Test → Save if the test is successful. Next, click Send a message to the channel. Again, check the account information to be linked. Keep the action as it is and proceed to the next step. On the next screen, set the following items.
Channel ID to Post: You can select from the candidates. The channel ID will be something like "C02U49NMLQ4". ※ Please refer to here to add Yoom in the "Integration" section of the relevant channel in advance.
Message: This time, we quoted the output and set it as follows. By writing <@Member ID>, you can also add a mention.
Once selected, test it. Let's take a look at Slack.
You can see the message properly! Finally, turn on the app trigger to complete. Thank you for your hard work. Even I, who am not familiar with programming, was able to do it!

Benefit 1: Easy and Smooth Information Sharing
By automatically notifying Slack of updates in Google Sheets, the entire team can access the latest information. Since you only need to check Slack notifications, there's no need to repeatedly check Google Sheets for updates, which can improve overall work efficiency.
Benefit 2: Reduction of Manual Work and Error Prevention
Automating manual notification tasks can prevent human errors and improve the accuracy of operations. This automation can be particularly beneficial when dealing with large amounts of data or frequent updates. By eliminating the need for manual sharing tasks, you can allocate the time saved to other important tasks.

With Yoom, you can easily build the kind of collaboration described here without programming knowledge.
I have gained approximately three years of experience in the financial sector since graduating. Due to the nature of the industry, there were many manual tasks, and I often thought that automating them would allow us to focus on other work. It was during this time that I discovered Yoom. As I write blogs, I am continually impressed by the convenience of Yoom. I strive to maintain a clear and understandable structure.
