When a specific file is uploaded to Box, extract text with OCR and create a post on Medium

When a specific file is uploaded to Box, extract text with OCR and create a post on Medium

Launch this workflow to connect Box & Medium !

■Overview

Do you manually create Medium blog posts from materials and notes saved in Box? Uploading files, reviewing their contents, and copying and pasting text can be time-consuming and prone to transcription errors.
This workflow automatically uses OCR to read the contents of specific files uploaded to Box and creates drafts as Medium articles. Integrate Box with Medium to streamline your content creation process.

■Who is this template for?

  • Anyone who regularly shares information on Medium based on content saved in Box
  • Anyone looking to eliminate the inefficiency and hassle of manually transferring information between Box and Medium
  • Anyone considering automating a Box-based article creation workflow for content marketing

■Benefits of using this template

  • Automatically create Medium posts when files are uploaded to Box, reducing the time spent manually transferring content and creating drafts.
  • Extract text with OCR to prevent transcription errors and missing content that can occur during copy and paste, helping maintain content quality.

■How the Flowbot works

  1. First, connect Box and Medium to Yoom.
  2. Select Box as the trigger and set the “When a file is uploaded to a folder” action.
  3. Next, configure the branching feature in an operation so that subsequent steps run only when specific conditions, such as the file name, are met.
  4. Set Box’s “Download a file” action as an operation to download the file detected by the trigger.
  5. Next, use the OCR feature’s “Read any image or PDF” action to extract text from the downloaded file.
  6. Finally, set Medium’s “Create Post” action as an operation to create a new post using the extracted text as the body.

※“Trigger”: An action that starts the flow. “Operation”: An action that performs a task within the flow after the trigger runs.

■Customization options

  • In the Box trigger settings, enter the ID of the folder you want to monitor.
  • With the branching feature, you can freely define conditions for proceeding to subsequent steps based on information obtained by the trigger, such as the file name or file format.
  • In the OCR settings, customize details such as which parts of the file to read and extract text from.
  • In the Medium posting action, you can set text extracted by OCR as variables or enter fixed text for fields such as the title, body, and tags.

■Notes

  • Connect both Box and Medium to Yoom.
  • The AI operations for OCR and audio transcription are available only on the Team and Success plans. Please note that operations in configured Flowbots will result in errors on the Free and Mini plans.
  • Paid plans, including the Team and Success plans, offer a two-week free trial. During the free trial, you can use restricted apps and AI features (operations).
  • You can select a trigger interval of 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes.
  • Please note that the shortest available trigger interval varies by plan.
  • Branching is available as a feature (operation) on the Mini plan and above. Please note that operations in configured Flowbots will result in errors on the Free plan.
  • Paid plans, including the Mini plan, offer a two-week free trial. During the free trial, you can use restricted apps and features (operations).
  • The maximum downloadable file size is 300 MB. Depending on the app specifications, the limit may be less than 300 MB.
