When a merge request is created in GitLab, summarize it with AI and notify Slack

When a merge request is created in GitLab, summarize it with AI and notify Slack

Launch this workflow to connect GitLab & OpenAI & Slack !
■Overview
Reviewing and sharing the details of every new merge request created in GitLab with the relevant stakeholders can be time-consuming. When the changes are complex, it can take even longer just to understand the overview, which may lead to review delays.
With this workflow, creating a merge request in GitLab triggers AI to automatically summarize the changes and notify Slack. This streamlines the effort required to share information and helps keep the development process moving smoothly.
■Who Is This Template For?
  • Developers who find it time-consuming to request reviews and share information after creating merge requests in GitLab
  • Anyone who wants to quickly understand the details of multiple merge requests and manage team progress
  • Anyone who wants to automate information sharing within the development team and streamline the review process
■Benefits of Using This Template
  • AI automatically summarizes and notifies you of the details when a merge request is created in GitLab, reducing the time required to create and share summaries
  • Prevent missed notifications and communication errors caused by manual sharing, enabling accurate information sharing
■How the Flow Works
  1. First, connect GitLab, OpenAI, and Slack to Yoom
  2. Next, select GitLab as the trigger and set the action to “When a merge request is created”
  3. Then, set OpenAI’s “Generate text (Chat completion)” action as an operation to summarize the retrieved information
  4. Finally, set Slack’s “Send a message to a channel” action as an operation to notify the specified channel of the summary generated by AI
※ “Trigger”: An action that starts the flow; “Operation”: An action that processes information within the flow after the trigger starts
■Customizing This Workflow
  • In the GitLab trigger settings, you can specify the project ID to include in the automation and the number of merge requests to retrieve at a time.
  • For the OpenAI text generation action, you can freely customize the prompt to specify the summary format and insert information retrieved from GitLab as variables.
  • For the Slack notification action, you can choose which channel to send the message to. You can also freely edit the notification content and use information such as the AI-generated summary as variables.
■Notes
  • Connect GitLab, OpenAI, and Slack to Yoom.
  • You can select a trigger interval of 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes.
  • Please note that the shortest available trigger interval varies by plan.
  • To run OpenAI actions, you need an OpenAI paid API plan. (You must be able to make payments when the API is used.)
  • OpenAI’s API uses a usage-based billing system based on the tokens consumed during API communication. Please note that an error will occur if you are unable to make payments when using the API.
